  • WOMEN'S HOUSING LEADERSHIP GROUP OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

A group of women formed the Northern California chapter of the Women’s Housing Leadership Group in 2019 to help elevate women into the homebuilding industry’s highest executive positions throughout Northern California.

With the help of generous industry sponsors, WHLG partnered with Leaderology, Inc., and launched its inaugural 2021-2022 program with an innovative, two-year leadership training program that matched outstanding women with industry executives. WHLG also debuted a women's leadership workshop series.

For 2023-2024, WHLG's founding members in Northern California took what they learned and embarked on their second women's leadership training cycle. Now called RISE, nine women were carefully selected from a talented pool of mid- to upper-level leaders working within the homebuilding industry in Northern California to participate in the prestigious leadership training program. An additional 20 women have committed to WHLG's BUILD program, a five-part workshop series that will help them build their own brand, expand their influence and increase their visibility within the industry.

    NEW!

WHLG NorCal Congratulates First Protégé Named Division President

Fei Xue Is Meritage Homes’ New Division President in Colorado

(July 15, 2024) Meritage Homes’ Fei Xue is the first member of the Northern California Women’s Housing Leadership Group’s inaugural class of 2021-2022 to earn a promotion to division president in a homebuilding company, a top goal of the prestigious women’s leadership training program launched to help elevate women into the homebuilding industry’s highest executive positions.

Ms. Xue assumed her new role on June 1, 2024, and is transitioning from her work as Meritage’s division vice president in Northern California to her new Denver-based assignment. Ms. Xue is relocating to Colorado with her husband and 8-year-old son.

“I knew Fei was outstanding from the moment I met her,” said Taylor Morrison’s San Francisco Bay Area Division President Craig Merry, who served as her mentor or “Champion” during WHLG’s innovative leadership program. “She is a driver and a results-oriented person.  She has a great future ahead of her in the homebuilding industry.”

Born in Beijing, Fei Xue (pronounced f-AY soo) came as a young child with her parents to California, where her father was pursuing a PhD at the University of California San Diego.  The family later relocated to the East Coast and she earned her undergraduate degree at New York University’s Stern School of Business and a master’s of business administration (MBA) degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Xue worked in commercial development for a small private company in a Philadelphia suburb for more than a decade prior to joining Meritage’s Northern California division in Sacramento, where she was a member of its innovative management training program designed to help outstanding employees advance their careers.

Ms. Xue is one of 10 women carefully selected for the inaugural 2021-2022 class from a talented pool of mid-level homebuilding leaders in Northern California who aspire to reach highest executive positions within the industry. Called “Protégés,” the second class of nine outstanding women embarked on their professional development journeys in 2023.

“We are extremely proud of Fei for her outstanding achievement and we are thrilled to see that WHLG’s goal of helping qualified and talented women advance in the homebuilding industry is imminently achievable,” said Bridgit Koller of Lennar Homes, one of the founders of WHLG Northern California. “Fei may be the first but we are confident that she will not be the last protégé to attain noteworthy promotions.”

Funded largely through industry and personal contributions, the two-year program includes comprehensive personal assessments from Leaderology Inc., a personal development plan, executive coaching and the opportunity to work one-on-one with a high-level industry executive called a “Champion.” The program also provides unique access to high-level networking that the participants have found especially valuable during and after the program.

WHLG Northern California also offers a specially designed series of workshops each year for women seeking to elevate their careers in the homebuilding industry. The 2024 Ascend Leadership Workshops are full but women who would like to be placed on an interest list for a future series should send an email to whlg.norcal@gmail.com.
