  • Builder Membership

    Any individual, partnership, corporation, or a division or subsidiary of a corporation, or a joint venture entity engaged in the business of building homes, apartments, or other similar structures normally related and appurtenant to a community; or in land development; or in remodeling. All Builder member companies shall be entitled to a vote, but only one (1) principal member of a firm or one (1) officer of a corporation shall be permitted to vote, said voting member being the person appearing on the membership application unless otherwise designated by letter to the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

    Builder Schedule of Dues and Building Activity Fees

    Annual dues: $1,000. (BIA Bay Area Membership Dues include Membership in the (CBIA) California Building Industry Association & (NAHB) National Association of Home Builders).

    Building Activity Fees:

    1. For for-sale units (including units associated with a condominium conversion project), a fee of 1/10 of 1% of the unit sales price not to exceed $600, to BIA Bay Area at close of sales escrow by written instructions given to the title company by the Builder Member or other approved payment method. Provided, however, that no assessment shall be due on units required by a governmental agency to be sold at a below-market rate. It shall be the Builder Member’s responsibility to request this exemption and provide adequate documentation supporting the request. If a for-sale unit was previously assessed as a rental unit pursuant to Category “2”, the amount of that assessment shall be deducted from the assessment due pursuant to Category “1”.
    2. For rental units, including apartment construction, $100 per residential unit to BIA Bay Area at issuance of building permit or other approved payment method. Provided, however, that no assessment shall be due on units required by a governmental agency to be rented at a below-market rate. It shall be the Builder Member’s responsibility to request this exemption and provide adequate documentation supporting the request.
    3. Lot Development Fee: $50 per lot to BIA Bay Area at close of escrow or other approved payment method.
    4. For commercial, industrial, remodeling, and rehabilitation construction, a fee of 1/10 of 1% of the building permit valuation to BIA Bay Area at issuance of building permit or other approved payment method.

    The maximum Building Activity Fees that a Builder member may incur through Categories “1”, “2”, “3” and “4” in a calendar year is capped at a combined total of $75,000. Provided, however, that the maximum Building Activity Fees that a Builder member may incur through Category “2” (rental units) or Category “3” (lot development fee) in a calendar year is capped at $20,000.


    Associate Membership

    Any individual, partnership, corporation, non-profit corporation, or joint venture entity engaged in an industry, service, or profession related to and providing a service to the building industry, and not by definition required to be a Builder member of the Association, and which does not meet the criteria of the definition of Subcontractor subcategory member below.

    Associate Dues Schedule
    Associate member dues are $975 and paid annually on the anniversary of your join date. The BIA Bay Area, three-in-one membership includes local BIA Bay Area membership which covers our Northern, Eastern and Southern Policy Committees including the San Francisco Bay Area and adjoining coastal areas, and membership in both the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). MEMBERSHIP DUES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
