BIA Bay Area and member builders in the Ford Ord redevelopment area have waged a determined campaign to oppose massive 200% water and sewer connection fees first proposed in 2019. Finally, MCWD Capacity Fees are on the 7/20/20 District Board agenda https://mcwd.org/governance_meetings.html. If adopted as recommended by MCWD Consultants in new studies, residential fees will increase by approximately 33% for a single-family home, rising from the current $11,332 per unit to a recommended $14,712 per unit. BIA has been engaged in the MCWD fee issue since July of 2019 and has been instrumental in reigning in MCWD plans to more than double the existing fee. Member builders in the 6,000+ unit Ord Community base redevelopment plans include Century Communities, KB Home, Shea Homes, and Wathen Castanos Homes. BIA efforts to coordinate and focus opposition to MCWD fee proposals have helped result in millions of dollars in savings to builders as thousands of residential units plus substantial commercial development and hundreds of hotel rooms remain to be constructed.
