• Richmond Looks At New Public Art Fee

  • The Richmond City Council is set to consider on Jan. 24, 2017, a proposed 1 percent public art fee ordinance. As proposed, private development would be required to install on-site publicly accessible artwork valued at1 percent of construction costs or pay an in-lieu fee. Most new development would come under the provisions including residential projects of 10 or more units. Affordable housing projects would also have to pay the fee. There is no cap. No action is expected at this meeting. Staff is requesting policy direction and indicated in the staff report that they intend to meet with stakeholders.
