• MTC to Consider Establishing Regional Blue Ribbon Committee on Housing Crisis

  • On Wednesday, December 14, MTC will hold a Commission Workshop at the Hyatt Regency, Five Embarcadero Center, in San Francisco from noon to 5 pm. One of the items on the agenda will be consideration of a staff proposal to create a new regional committee that would, according to MTC, "develop a Regional Housing Implementation Strategy" to identify and implement "game-changing regional solutions to address the Bay Area's chronic housing affordability challenges." MTC staff identifies a recent similar effort in Seattle as a model and proposes to name this effort the "Committee for Affordable and Sustainable Accommodation" (CASA) which would "include local jurisdictions as well as non-governmental organizations representing the 'three Es--economy, equity and the environment." According to the Workshop agenda material [attached], "Fred Blackwell, Chief Executive Officer of the San Francisco Foundation, and Leslye Corsiglia, Executive Director of SV@Home, have agreed to serve as co-chairs of the committee should the Commission agree to pursue this course of action."
