• HCD Launches Public Lands Survey

  • Developers interested in purchasing or leasing surplus lands for affordable housing now have access to a new statewide database of available properties. As a result of Assembly Bill 1486, all local agencies starting Jan. 1, 2020, including cities, counties and special districts, must send notices of land availability to the California Housing & Community Development Department or HCD. Developers should notify HCD of their interest using the agency’s online survey: Click HERE to access the Developer Interest Local Agency Surplus Land Survey. HCD will post the list of interested developers and the available lands database on its website and update as necessary. Throughout 2020, HCD will provide technical assistance, education and outreach to develop uniform standards, guidelines and other materials to ensure that local agencies comply with state law when disposing of surplus land. Please send any questions to publiclands@hcd.ca.gov.
