• Hayward To Restructure Water Hook-up Fee

  • Residential water connection fees in Hayward would be based on the actual size of the required service under a proposal set to go before the Hayward City Council on June 2, 2015. Currently, the city charges a flat $8,106 for residential service up to a 1-inch meter. But based on the growing use of 1” meters necessary to meet fire sprinkler codes, city staff is asking the council to set the fees based on the meter size. The revised structure would result in the following fee changes: A 20 percent reduction in the current rate for a ⅝” meter from $8,106 to $6,484 in FY 2016 and 2017; a 20 percent increase in the ¾” meter rate of $8,106 to $9,730 in FY 2016 and 2017; and a 50 percent increase the rate for a 1” meter of $8,106 to $12,158 in FY 2016 and an additional 33 percent to $16,210 in FY 2017.
