• Contra Costa Moderates Fee Hike Proposal

  • Based on feedback provided by BIA|Bay Area about the impacts of higher fees on housing costs, Contra Costa County staff adjusted proposed fee hikes as part of a wholesale planning and building permit rates restructuring plan that will go before the Board of Supervisors in September. Under the revised fee proposal, costs will increase on average by 5 percent although large projects may see a slight decrease due to economies of scale. For example, building permit fees for a single-family home project valued at $515,000 would pay an additional $245 under the updated fee schedule. The earlier fee proposal would have cost the same single-family home builder an extra $2,800. Contra Costa County last revamped its building and planning fees more than 20 years ago.
