• Concord Ponders Public Art Fee

  • The Concord City Council is scheduled to determine whether or not to proceed with a new public art fee during its meeting on Jan. 8, 2018. The city abandoned its public art program in 1996 following community controversy over the “Spirit Poles” installation. Councilmembers in February 2017 directed city staff to explore resumption of a city public art program, including a mandatory fee on new development. BIA|Bay Area’s East Bay Executive Director of Governmental Affairs Lisa Vorderbrueggen will meet with city staff and submit a comment letter expressing concerns about the imposition of a new fee during a housing shortage and at a time when construction costs are already very high.
