Residential housing permit rates dropped 46 percent in the San Francisco Bay Area in August 2020 when compared with the same month last year. The region experienced a significantly larger decline than the state as a whole, which saw a 16 percent drop during the same period. Of the homes that were built in the Bay Area, the majority were multi-family units.
