In response to a BIA Bay Area request for a stakeholder meeting with builders, the City of Milpitas added a third community development outreach meeting focused on affordable housing fees. The meeting will be held Tuesday November 29, 2018, from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Meeting location is Milpitas City Hall, 455 E. Calaveras Blvd. Milpitas, CA 95035 in the Committee Conference Room. Back on June 12, 2018, the Milpitas City Council adopted an Affordable Housing Ordinance allowing the City to charge residential and commercial impact fees for affordable housing. The upcoming stakeholder outreach meeting will discuss the amount of commercial and residential impact fees that the City Council will approve through a soon to be adopted resolution. The City Council has stated their goal is to “balance the need for affordable housing with a desire for continued economic growth”, so it is not surprising to see recommended fees on commercial development coming in at under $10 per square foot, while new residential development is targeted for fees in the $30 per square foot range.
