• Hayward Considers Affordable Housing Updates

  • Hayward is proposing changes to its affordable housing ordinance including the possible elimination of the city’s by right fee option for the provision of required low income units. BIA|Bay Area and its members participated in a stakeholders’ meeting in September and submitted a comment letter last week on the proposals. BIA is objecting to the loss of the fee option, noting, among other things, that the state and county have or will have starting next year new affordable housing funding sources that require local matches. Without fee revenue, the city cannot access these highly competitive dollars. The Hayward City Council is set to hold a study session on Oct. 17, 2017, to discuss the various affordable housing ordinance update proposals. Click here to view BIA|Bay Area’s comment letter.
