The Albany City Council will deliberate on April 3, 2017, whether or not to pursue affordable housing impact fees based on a nexus study that purports to support fees up to $44 per sq. ft. on new residential housing and $113 to $240 per sq. ft. on commercial development. While Albany is a small inner East Bay community of less than 20,000 people, its nexus study was prepared as part of a coordinated work program for 12 jurisdictions in Alameda and Santa Clara counties.
