• San Jose 1 Percent for Public Art

  • The San Jose City Council, at its March 7th meeting, rejected Vice Mayor Carrasco’s recommendation to direct staff to establish a new 1% Public Art Fee for private development during the 2017 calendar year. In addition to speaking at the March 7th meeting, BIA Bay Area has been opposing the efforts by San Jose city council members to direct the coordination of a private development public art fee over the past few years (see letter dated 12.1.15). Numerous diverse arts organization representatives and public art consultants spoke in favor of the Vice Mayor’s recommendation on March 7th .
