• Alameda County Pursues Housing Bond

  • Alameda County has launched a series of workshops and community meetings intended to produce a countywide housing bond measure for the November 2016 election. BIA|Bay Area will participate as a stakeholder and work to ensure that any new taxpayer-approved housing dollars will help fund the production of new affordable housing units. Following the dissolution of California’s redevelopment agencies and the resulting loss of affordable housing funds, counties and cities have increasingly tapped residential developers — and, ultimately, market-rate homebuyers — to pay affordable housing subsidies. The Board of Supervisors’ Health Committee has scheduled housing bond development workshops for April 11, April 25, May 16 and June 6, 2016. Community meetings will also be held in each supervisorial district. The full board is scheduled to consider a proposed housing bond on June 14, 2016.
